HEALTH TIPS

I’m happy to share my favorite recipes here with you. These are the dishes I prepare for my family on a daily basis. I tend to be practical about preparing food and you will notice that in most dishes, the stars of the recipes are the vegetables. I’ll try to combine different vegetables in one dish or make stews because it’s all about eating lots of  plants, fibers ánd variation. Taste is priority number one for me. Therefore I use lots of herbs and spices…they make the difference. Healthy and tasty really go hand in hand…you’ll see! Apart from tasty and healthy, the recipes are easy to prepare. In most of them you’ll find the health benefits of one or more ingredients. Ooh..and they’re all gluten free and most of them dairy free!

Chicken leek and sweet potato oven-dish

Chicken, leek and sweet potato casserole

To me this is the ultimate comfort food recipe...but it is also the perfect energy bomb - a combination of slow, fiber-rich carbohydrates, strengthening proteins (necessary to build our bones and muscles) and healthy fats! Fiber-rich carbs are the preferred food of our good gut bacteria. Loads of good gut bacteria make a healthy gut!!  Well, the sweet potato, carrots, leeks and onions are the ideal benefactors of our gut.

banana egg pancakes

Easy and yummy banana egg pancakes

Sometimes you feel like eating pancakes but you don’t have the time or the ingredients to do so...well, I’ve got the perfect alternatieve for you! These healthy and light banana egg pancakes are a great breakfast, brunch or snack option. An ideal recipe to prepare with your children, super easy with only 2 ingredients.

creamy pumpkin soup

Creamy pumpkin soup

A pumpkin soup (or cream) is considered a typical winter dish, but we eat this one all year round! Pumpkin soup is real comfort food for me. I always make a large pot and freeze several portions for later. Isn’t it nice just to be able to take out a portion of yummy and healthy pumpkin soup whenever you feel like it?

Health boosting curry with chicken and root vegetables

Health boosting curry with root vegetables

It’s time to give your immune system a boost. Let’s do this with this delicious curry with chicken, sweet potato, carrots, parsnip and celeriac. Curry is real comfort food, ideal for cold days and you can make as many variations as you want. It’s always yummy! This time I made a winter version with different types of roots.

gluten free plum cake

Healthy Gluten Free Plum Cake

We bake this cake regularly and I guarantee you that it is sooo yummy it is impossible to keep your hands off it. I’ve used 3 different types of (gluten-free) flour and almost no sugar. The plums give the cake a delicious taste and make it a bit moist.

Chickendish from middle east with red onion, eggplant and red onion.

Chicken Musakhan my way, simple and delicious

This dish is originally from Palestina. The basic ingredients are chicken, red onion, Sumac, served on flatbread (which I’m leaving out). Since I’m always looking to add vegetables to each and every dish, I did the same with this one...and I think the ideal vegetable to complete my quick version of Musakah is: the eggplant.

Asian vegetable stir fry

This is a classic ... for us at home anyway. We eat this dish at least once a week. I always make a big pan (and I secretly hope there will be some left over for the day after) but still we manage to eat everything”Although this dish is simple and easy to prepare …..the Asian touch makes it special!
